Hey All,

I do believe our boys are starting to catch on! I didn't go to their
showcase last night but some friends told me it was at capacity when MMJ
went on at 1am (they didn't get in) as opposed to last year when they had
about 20 people show up (everyone was trying to get into the Blake Babies
reunion i guess). I did see them at the Yard Dog this afternoon and they
were THE buzz band- i don't know how many people i heard talking about them
before their set, But i guarantee everyone there is talking about them now.
A stellar set of MMJ standards ending in a mess of monitors, drum kits, hay
and guitars (and guitarists)!

I got to their Urban Outfitters gig late, so i missed a couple solo Jim
James but arrived just as he started George Harrison's "All Things Must
Pass" so i can't be anything but happy. Then the band joined in for "Old
Sept. Blues", "Picture of You" and "Evelyn Is Not Real". I believe Jim may
have set a new record for the silent pause at the end before the last guitar
notes. Then a Black Sabbath dirge (no, i don't know which one), a new one,
and "Just Because I Do". I'm probably missing one in there but an excellent
low key set by the band followed by the high energy of Swearing At Motorists
who I hadn't seen before. They do rock!
Of note: Jim was playing a shiney new hollowbody guitar and apparently had
enough money left over for some shoes but by the time they got to the Yard
Dog he was barefootin' with the Flying V and all was right in the universe.

Peace y'all,

Matt
