My Morning Jacket live at Slim's, San Francisco, CA, July 27, 2002 opening for Ben Kweller Thanks to Jeff Beck for contributing this setlist! [...] this may not be entirely acurate: 1. The Dark 2. Lowdown 3. The Way That He Sings 4. Heartbreakin Man 5. Just Because I Do 6. War Begun 7. One Big Holiday 8. Phone Went West The band was on fire from the very beginning. The boys rocked through the first 5 songs pretty quickly. Then starting with "War Begun", each song was introduced as "Cobra". Although the band may never do more than tease us with the possiblity of playing that song live, Jim made up for the joke by playing a bistering solo on "War Begun" that ran out at least 5 or 6 minutes. This may have been the most intense MMJ moment I've experienced yet. "One Big Holiday" was as rockin' as ever, and "Phone Went West" seemed a little more personal than usually. I can't really describe it, but the song just seemed to take its own shape for the SF crowd.
