  4. JH Instrumental
  5. House On Highland Ave
  6. Bad Indian
  7. John Hardy

Demos from the recording sessions for the "Death Party" EP.

The last two tracks are most probably from another source, and might not be special at all. They both sound like they have been taken from vinyl, and both sound very much like the released "Miami" album versions from 1982.

Personal source 1: Studio Soundboard Tape? -> (? ->) CD-R, and encoded to FLAC
Personal source 2: cdr trades > EAC > Audacity > TLH > Flac8

Running time: approx. 24 mins.

Audience walkman recording. This is the 2nd show of that night.

A story from the guy who made this tape:
"Jeffery was a little drunk. At the 9:30 there used to be a post at the center of the stage. The stage was a square stage in the far corner of a square room. During "Sex Beat" Jeffery ran smack into the post, briefly knocking himself out. You'll hear another voice (Mike Lavella, former Pittsburgh punk who now publishes "Gearhead") who picked up the mic & uttered the final "Sex Beat"."

Personal source: Audience Tape -> Tape, transferred to CD-R, and later encoded to FLAC

Running time: approx. 42 mins.

Exo 7 (1983-2010) was previously known as Cinéma le Chartreux (1953-1979) and as Studio 44 (1979-1983). The building was demolished in the Fall of 2021.

Personal source: Audience Tape -> ? -> CD-R, and encoded to FLAC (later on the FLAC files were decoded to WAV, then edited because of those annoying 0.2 seconds mini gaps caused by not splitting the separate tracks on sectory boundaries before burning to CDr, and encoded to FLAC again)

Running time: approx. 67 mins.
Quality: very good

The j-card of this tape, which I bought at the famous Amsterdam Queensday flea market, reads only "Zürich '83".
The last three tracks are on the b-side of the tape and it looks/sounds like they come from a different broadcast (or recorded with different equipment).

After "John Hardy" it takes more than 3 minutes for the next song to be played due to some equipment issues.

Personal source: ? -> Tape, and transferred to FLAC

Running time: approx. 58 mins.
Quality: very good/excellent

Obtained as an audience recording, but appears to be from the same source as version 2 below and that was shared as a possible soundboard, which could be true.

The tape has a break between "Cool Drink Of Water" and "Fire Spirit" and while the quality till that point is very good it decreases to just good after that.

[Note that I haven't heard this release, but as with previous 'official' releases I don't expect this to be an upgrade over what has circulated freely before amongst fans and collectors.]

Comments from the source:
"Here we have a Gun Club recording I've never seen before which I recently acquired off a Belguim Ebayer. The tape came with a piece of paper which the writer wrote that they had been at the gig and that they were GREAT and also there was an audience of 100 - 120.
Also written was about how the drummer and second guitarist for Sydney based band The Johhnies replaced two members of The Gun Club as they were not allowed into the country. Also included on the tape were a couple of sessions from Adelaide band The Sputniks.

The piece of paper included with the tape has 1st or 2nd gen written on it and the the quality of the recording is of it's day and is still quite listenable. The downside there is some tape wear after the tape flip with Sex Beat although the recording picks up on The House On Highland Avenue. Track 13 is listed as Walls Are Green but doesn't last long as the tape speeds up then cuts out. It is what it is so please enjoy."

  14. PAT WILSON - Bop Girl

With Patricia Morrison on bass, Kid Congo Powers slide guitar, Spencer P. Jones guitar (from the Johnnys), and Billy drums (from the Johnnys).

Quote from PJB who sent me the tape: "Pat Wilson's "Bop Girl" is a horrible catchy song which Jeffrey Lee Pierce heard when it was a No.1 hit on local radio at the time, and he sampled lines from the song at every show he did. Hear him describe what he wants to do with Pat Wilson!"

Personal source: Audience Tape -> Tape -> Tape, and transferred to FLAC

Running time: approx. 81 mins. (filler approx. 5 mins.)
Quality: very good

This tape was previously thought to be from the Seaview Ballroom, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, October 1, 1983 gig.

For a little more info on Pat Wilson's Bop Girl, see this Wikipedia page. Fun fact from there: "The music video was the screen debut of 15-year-old Nicole Kidman playing the role of a young "bop girl"."

Comments from the source:
"I purchased this Gun Club live (Bop Girl) cassette in a record shop in Melbourne in 1983. Featuring Spencer P. Jones (guitar) and Billy Pommer Jr. (drums) from the Johnnys. I was told it was recorded at the Seaview Ballroom. I don't have the tape in my collection anymore. I did see (but didn't record) JLP at his first solo show on the tour and later the Melbourne University with a full band both which were very unique! Note: There are some minor burn error noises during the last 2 minutes of the final song (13 A Love Supreme). These were introduced during the original burn process. Enjoy."

This tape was previously thought to be from the Seaview Ballroom, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, October 1, 1983 gig.
